Melbourne offers campers a vast choice of camping sites and styles quite close to the CBD. This gives travellers a great opportunity to explore the cosmopolitan lifestyle and also experience a camping atmosphere.

Ashley Gardens Holiday Village (BIG4)

This site is very well located only 9 km and 20 minutes from the city centre. Braybrook Shopping Centre is only a few minutes walk, as is Central West Shopping Centre. Public transport, recreation amenities, and good local restaurants are all at hand. Onsite accommodation comes in the full range, from deluxe villas through to standard cabins. Camp sites provide for caravans with en-suite and both powered and unpowered options. As well as the usual facilities, there is an indoor sauna and spa, a library, and a recreation room. There is also a heated pool and a tennis court. Amenities are clean and well maintained. The park has sullage and a dump point, and also offers van storage if requested. A Britz Maui pick-up point is located close by and public transport is at the front of the park. Overall, it is a good location that is close to town and has well-maintained facilities.

The park is set on acres of landscaped grounds and just 9km from the centre of Melbourne.  It is quite close to Melbourne Airport and the Spirit of Tasmania ferry terminal, and there is handy public transport just outside the gate. Accommodation options include a vast range of villas and cabins for all budgets and tastes. Campers are well catered for if they have camping vehicles of any type from motor homes through to tents and campervans. Camping sites are located in a pleasant garden setting with plenty of shade. For extra creature comfort, the en-suite powered sites come with their own shower, toilet, vanity, and mirror. Sites come with a concrete slab, if desired, and there are easy drive-through sites available on request. Facilities include: all the expected provision of a Big 4, together with free in-house movies, and a recreation and movie room. This campsite is in a handy location for exploring the attractions of the city and has good amenities and facilities.

South East Holiday Village, Chelsea

The park is located south east of Melbourne CBD in the bay side suburb of Chelsea Heights. This area is somewhat of a halfway point between Melbourne city and the Mornington Peninsula. Extensive accommodation is on offer for families, couples, and groups, with options including villas or deluxe cabins through to budget cabins. There are both powered and unpowered camping sites for caravans and tents. Sites are a good size and can handle the largest vehicles. Facilities include a swimming pool with toddlers’ area, a games room with a TV and table tennis, internet access, and a camp kitchen. Visitors can enjoy a round at one of the nearby golf courses or walk to the nearby beach. Alternatively, they can pay a visit to the Frankston Art centre. There are also lots of local licensed clubs in the area offering good and affordable food and drinks.
